About

A little about me...

I completed my Master’s in Marriage and Family counseling in 2001 but infertility issues helped me decide to stay home with my children both biological and adopted. I have raised two amazing humans volunteering in educational and recreational activities throughout. I have served as a family minister for several years and was ordained in 2017. As my youngest child was completing high school, I went back to school to refresh my education earning a Certificate in Mental Health, master’s level coursework at Lamar University. As my youngest went off to college, I became a licensed professional counselor associate, ready to offer my community the help that I have received over the years. Raising children and navigating relationships is hard work. Maybe you are watching your student struggle with depression or anxiety and are seeking help for them or maybe you need support for yourself as you support your teen. There are tons of groups that help parents navigate the toddler years, but too frequently we go quiet when we have a teen who is struggling emotionally, feeling unmoored and alone. I want to support you in whatever phase of life you are in. My therapeutic approach is rooted in empathy, understanding, and evidence-based techniques that aim to foster resilience and empower you to move from surviving to thriving. I work with individuals, pre-teens and teens as well as adults, focusing on anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I also facilitate couple’s and family therapy, providing the space for you to build communication skills and shared understanding. I offer individual, family, and couples counseling. Individual and family counseling sessions are typically 50 minutes long. Because I use the Gottman Method for couples counseling the structure is a bid different: the first session is both partners together for 90 minutes, the second session consists of two 45-minute sessions (one with each partner) which can be scheduled on the same day or at different times. The third session is a joint 90-minute session where we go over information learned from the individual sessions and assessment information that has been done outside of therapy and make a blueprint for following sessions. If you are ready to take the next step, I offer free 15 phone consultations to see if we are a good fit to work together. My fees are listed below but I offer a sliding scale for those in need. Finances should not be a barrier to therapy. Please reach out with questions to see how I can be of assistance.
